‘Manhattan Youth’ is a new slice of tightly woven indie from Been Stellar. Chunky, distorted guitars make up the bulk of the track’s accompaniment, but frequent, punchy drum fills are used to fill the gaps. Lyrically, the five-piece reflect on the reality of growing up in New York. It “ponders the ways in which the city shapes a child’s worldview. In many ways, this song is a reaction to the typical ode to romantic New York. When living in a place like New York, one is subjected to disturbing, saddening, and gruesome scenes regularly.
